Game's over but your bet still says pending? Here's why sportsbooks delay settlement and when to contact support.
Why Is My Bet Still Pending After the Game Ended?
The game finished, you know the result, and your bet still shows as open. It's one of the most common frustrations in sports betting, especially on a busy NFL Sunday. In most cases nothing is wrong. Sportsbooks only settle a bet once they have confirmed the official result, and several ordinary situations can hold that up. Here are the usual reasons, and how to tell when it's time to contact support.
1. It's a parlay with a leg still to play
This is the most common reason by far. A parlay settles as one bet, so it stays open until every leg has finished. If your ticket includes a late game, a Monday night game or a leg from another sport, it will sit as pending even though the early games are over. Some sportsbooks also keep a parlay open after one leg has already lost, only grading it once the remaining legs are done. Open the bet details and check every leg before assuming there's a problem.
2. The sportsbook is waiting for official stats
Sportsbooks settle from official results and statistics, not from the score on your TV. Moneylines and spreads on major games usually settle quickly once the final score is confirmed. Player props can take longer, because individual stats such as receiving yards, rebounds or strikeouts have to be confirmed first, and leagues sometimes correct stats after the game.
3. The game was suspended or postponed
If a game is delayed, suspended or postponed, your bet can stay pending while the sportsbook waits to see whether it resumes. House rules set specific windows for this. FanDuel's rules, for example, say a suspended game counts as long as it resumes within 48 hours of the original start time, and that abandoned or postponed games must be resumed or rescheduled within 60 hours of kickoff for bets to stand. If the window passes, those bets are voided and your stake comes back. A voided leg in a parlay is usually dropped and the ticket repriced, just like when a parlay leg pushes.
4. Something unusual happened during the event
When an event doesn't go as the market expected, settlement may need a manual review. A tennis match decided by a tiebreak format the sportsbook hadn't listed, a player who appears for a single play, or a market that was posted incorrectly can all leave bets pending while traders work out how to grade them. These cases take longer because a person, not an automated feed, has to make the call.
5. The bet is under review
Occasionally a sportsbook deliberately holds settlement. When Draymond Green left a game after a few seconds in 2022, DraftKings put settlement of his prop bets on hold pending an investigation, then graded the unders as winners the following day. Sportsbooks also review bets placed at prices they consider obvious errors. Their house rules generally allow them to delay settlement in these situations, and in one Indiana case a federal court sided with DraftKings, finding its house rules allowed delayed settlement and voiding a bet placed on an obviously wrong line.
6. It's a futures bet or a later-settling market
Futures, season-long props and markets tied to awards or standings stay open until the season or event finishes. Some markets also depend on events after the game itself, such as a player's status for a later week. Check the market name and rules in your bet details.
How Long Should You Wait?
There's no single rule, but a sensible approach is:
- Straight bets on major games: give it an hour or two after the final result is official.
- Player props: allow longer, especially on busy days with many games ending at once.
- Parlays: nothing will settle until the last leg finishes, so check the start time of the latest game on your ticket.
- Suspended or postponed games: wait for the window in the house rules to pass.
When to Contact Support
If every leg is finished, the official result is clear and the bet still hasn't settled well after other bets on the same game, contact customer support. Have your bet ID or a screenshot of the bet ready, and ask whether the market is under review and when it will be graded. If you believe a bet was settled incorrectly, check the league's official result first, then raise it with support. If a dispute isn't resolved, licensed sportsbooks in the US are overseen by state gaming regulators, which handle formal complaints.
Avoid Surprises Next Time
Most pending bets come down to timing. Knowing which leg of your parlay finishes last, and how your sportsbook handles player props and delayed games, saves a lot of refreshing. If you're building a parlay this weekend, it's also worth checking that your legs can be combined in the first place: our guide on why some parlay selections cannot be combined covers the most common rejection.
